Artisan Coffee Bar @ Bangsar Village 2

After dinner one day with some ex-colleagues, we decided to chill and hangout at the place. Another coffee bar that is suddenly mushrooming all over Klang Valley, this place offers a nice and quiet environment to chillax in Bangsar Village.

For those who is not sure what to order(like me), there is a nice guide above the bar counter that's nicely done :)

They also serve a variety of light foods and ice-cream(The Last Polka, yummy !!)

Bible of coffee drinking & their menu

Real fruit juice(guava & lychee) with no added sugar and water (RM10)

They serve tea from TWG too... (RM12)

I didnt know what i wanted as i had 3 cups of black coffee that day, so i decided on a small bottle of fruit juice and Assam Harmutty tea from TWG. First the small bottle of juice is real small, i figure its probably about 100 - 150ml max only !!!

Secondly the tea...doesn't taste like TWG at all, it taste more like some Teh-O panas from the mamak across the street. Very disappointed at the tea, and i suspect they didn't use tea leaves from TWG....

Latte ordered by my friend. Strong ! (RM11)

Salted Gula Melaka (RM7.20)

Various cakes and light food. Didn't try though as just after dinner

Summary:

Stay away from the Tea and Fruit Juice. Although they says "TWG" tea it taste like Teh-O ordered from the mamak across the street, in fact that Teh-O taste better. As for the fruit juice its severely overpriced as u only get a big gulp then its finished. Stick to their coffee.

Rating:

Environment - 3.5/5 (nice, quiet place. their decor makes you feel right at home)
Yummy Factor - 2.5/5 (their coffee was good and strong. one of the best and would have gave 4 out of 5 if not for their horrible tea and fruit juice.)
Value for money - 2.5/5 (prices on the high side compared to other coffee places in the same building)
Service - 3/5 (Mostly self service but very friendly barristers)
Will return ? - Yes for coffee and ice-cream not for others.

Overall - 2.5/5

Lavinier Coffee & Bistro @ Publika

Got a good deal from myIMart, a group discount website that operates much like Groupon.

Basically for RM8.80 you get to enjoy Laviner breakfast + Coffee/Tea of your choice. Unfortunately when i was there their brewing machine is down. So i only get to choose between filtered coffee and English Breakfast Tea. Naturally i choose the tea.

A very good deal as the breakfast is as good as other places like Antipodean or Plan B. Just a slight regret as i didn't managed to try their signature coffee.

Breakfast platter. Quite standard stuff but the bread(under the egg) was nice.

 English Breakfast Tea.

They use a special blend of Thai beans.

The place is a little hard to find but its same floor as the food court. From the food court walk straight until you reach pass a few shop on your left. Its further in from there and hidden in a nice little corner.

If you are a Standard Chartered Bank card member, do use your card for a 15% discount off your bill.

Summary:

Nice little quiet place in Publika. Due to the location it doesn't get the crowd like The Bee or Plan B.

Rating:

Environment - 3.5/5 (Nice place to be if you want a quiet place to relax)
Yummy Factor - 3/5 (nothing to complain about, just wish i could try their signature coffee)
Value for money - 4.5/5 (For me at least. Check myIMart for more good deals)
Service - 3/5 (Service was decent. Good but nothing to shout about)
Will return ? - Yes

Overall - 3.5/5

Ben's General Food Store, Bangsar Village 1

Ben's General Food Store, located @ Bangsar Village 1 is another restaurant that is opened by the previous Delicious owner, Benjamin Yong. After he sold off to the E&O group he opened up his own restaurants like Plan B, Ben's and T FortyTwo under The Big Group.

The General Food Store is modeled like a communal styled cafeteria and pride themselves in home-styled cooking.

They specialize in Hot Deli items, Pizza & Salads.

The walls are decorated with various recipes and fun captions

Plain water served in the style like many other Big Group restaurants

As per the menu they serve a wide selection of pizzas and different kind of salads from the display counter. Thier hot deli items comes with a salad serving of your choice. Portion for the salad is quite big as you can see yourself. I recommend if you and your dining partner is not a big eater, just one deli item to share is enough.

This is called Tabbouleh, pronounced as Tak Boleh !

 Eggplant with Ramen salad

 Chicken Pie (RM20.90)

 Beef Lasagna (RM23.90)

As i mentioned the food portion is quite big, coupled with a serving of salad is enough for two. The salad was good and fresh. The chicken pie was a tad bit dry, still liking the ones from Dome much better. The Lasagna...well is normal but could do with more cheese.

Summary:

Overall decent food in a nice cozy environment. Big portions.

Rating:

Environment - 3/5 (cozy communal cafeteria feel)
Yummy Factor - 3/5 (nothing to complain about. above average)
Value for money - 3.5/5 (the prices here are comparable to many other cafes but slightly cheaper then Plan B)
Service - 3/5 (Service was decent. Good but nothing to shout about)
Will return ? - Yes

Overall - 3/5

Afternoon Tea @ TWG, Pavilion

Not sure what to do during this long weekend, we decided to go walk around @ KL. Normally i will not want to go down KL during weekends as it will be super jam and packed. Since most of the people "Balik Kampung" already thought it would be fun to just walk around empty KL, unfortunately although the roads were clear, Pavilion was super packed.

After some window shopping, we came across this place for afternoon tea. We actually went to the one in Marina Bay Sands(MBS) before and the setting there was wonderful as the cafe is actually situated on top of the Canal that is running along inside MBS, so we decided to give this one in Pavilion a try. For those who have difficulty finding the place, its actually right in front of Prada.

TWG have a super wide selection of teas ranging from RM18 - over RM300 !!!

The huge selection of teas means you can visit every day for the next 3 - 4 months and still not tried every one of the tea blends they have.

If you decide to tarpau the tea leaves for home consumption they will carefully weigh it by the gram

We decide to order the Fortune Afternoon Tea Set(RM55) which comes with:

1) A pot of RM18 tea of your choice (Tea above RM18 have to pay extra)
2) Scones, Muffins or Cake of your choice (go for the cake as the scones are left open uncovered)
3) Warm toasted Sandwich with cheese and smoked salmon served with side salad
4) 3 pieces of macaroons of your choice

Polo Club Tea (Green Tea with Spices & Caramel)

Served on 3 tiered plates :)

 Toasted Smoked Salmon Sandwich.

Fruit Tart. This was nice. Reminds me of the Delifrance fruit tarts that i used to love.

Tea infused Choc, Caramel & Blueberry Scones !!!

The scones have much more fancy names but cant remember them. A thing to note is that its sold here for RM4 each which is much cheaper then in Singapore which is sold for SGD3. So far the best tasting scones in Klang Valley. Blueberry one is exceptionally nice.

Summary:

It was a nice experience but a tad bit costly IMHO, but the environment is pretty nice. The tea is not refillable BTW, barely enough for 2 people.

Rating:

Environment - 4/5 (very nice decor)
Yummy Factor - 4/5 (overall food was satisfying, the tea was good)
Value for Money - 2/5 (on the expensive side, especially on the non-refillable tea)
Service - 3/5 (pleasant & polite waiting staffs but nothing spectacular)
Will return ? - Probably

Overall - 3.5/5
